A qualified Chinese practicing lawyer with over 15 years’ experience, Qi Chengwei (Alex) is an Equity Partner and Director of the Banking & Financial Law Department at Duan & Duan Law Firm (Shanghai). He holds an LLM from East China University of Political Science and Law, an EMBA from Fudan University, and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration at City University of Hong Kong. Since qualifying, he has advised over a hundred banking and financial institutions and acts as long-term legal counsel to more than a dozen of these clients.

With over 15 years’ focus on banking and financial law, Mr. Qi specialises in a broad spectrum of matters, including dispute resolution, bank loans, syndicated loans, M&A finance, project finance, trade finance, inclusive finance, bill finance, bank guarantees, letters of credit, factoring, financial leasing, consumer finance, debt restructuring, bond issuance, stock pledge repo transactions, margin trading and securities lending, and private equity. He has acted on over 1,000 financial and commercial litigation and arbitration cases, with a cumulative value exceeding tens of billions of yuan.

Outside his legal practice, Mr. Qi is Deputy Director of the Banking Professional Committee of the Shanghai Bar Association（SHBA）, a Director of the Shanghai Law Society’s Financial Law Research Institute and Shanghai Financial Law System Research Institute, and a Member of its Foreign-related Rule of Law Research Institute. He is also an Arbitrator at the Shanghai Arbitration Commission and the Shanghai International Arbitration Center (SHIAC).

Mr. Qi is an Adjunct Professor and Master’s Supervisor at several leading universities, including Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Koguan School of Law, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE) Law School, and East China University of Science and Technology Law School. He has authored five legal texts, participated in numerous provincial and municipal research projects, and is recognised as a Leading Lawyer and Recommended Lawyer in banking and financial law by authoritative publications such as IFLR1000.
